Orthodontics

The focus of orthodontic treatment is correction of malocclusion, maxillofacial defects and abnormal tooth positioning in patients of any age.

In the event of abnormalities related to tooth configuration and positioning of jaws against one another, it is often the dentist who first informs the patient about indications to perform orthodontic treatment. An orthodontic consultation is required when abnormal position of dental arches towards one another is observed.

For example, one of them is excessively put forward in relation to the other one. Moreover, orthodontic treatment is required in the case of such defects as open-bite malocclusion, which means open space between upper and lower front or cheek teeth when posterior teeth are in contact, as well as cross-bite occlusion, which involves abnormal tooth overlapping. What is also important is that orthodontic therapies are used in the event of crowding of teeth and the occurrence of wide gaps between particular teeth in the arch.

All kinds of abnormalities are typically corrected with orthodontic appliances, which may be fixed or removable, depending on the type and severity of the existing defect. The purpose of such treatment may be changing the tooth position, muscle strengthening or supporting growth of the jaw by exerting slight pressure. It must also be mentioned that orthodontic treatment is a long-term process, but resulting in numerous benefits.

An abnormal position of teeth and jaws may make it very difficult to maintain proper oral hygiene. In addition, this kind of defects may contribute to excessive burden on masseter muscles, which sometimes results in abnormal function of the temporomandibular joint and e.g. headaches. Therefore, orthodontic treatment should not be delayed. At our office, we will select such a treatment method that will be fully satisfactory to you.
